
On the central coast of Lanzarote, Puerto Calero is only 7 miles from Lanzarote Airport and 16 miles from the islands capital, Arrecife.
Its location is ideal for a Marina being protected from the island's prevailing North-Easterly wind. The nearby island of Fuerteventura and the mountain range forming the coast of Punta Gorda also give shelter from the waves rolling in from the Atlantic and the less frequent South-Westerly wind.
Puerto Calero did not exist until the developer José Calero conceived the idea for an exclusive retreat to provide a luxury Marina, Residential Development and Golf Course for Lanzarote.
The Marina is a great place to stroll, lay back and observe the boats and luxury yachts that are moored and absorb a bit of the exclusive atmosphere. There are cafes and restaurants that overlook the marina to sit and watch the world go by
If you want to do more then sit around then, Puerto Calero offers number of water based activities, including a (yellow) submarine excursion, catamaran trips, and a variety of sport-fishing boats.
If you prefer to get your feet wet there are dive schools operating near the Marina who offer instruction and guided dives from those new to diving up to those who are more experienced.
The souvenir shops which are more upmarket than in the other resorts of the Island.

The Puerto Calero nightlife is not so loud than its neighbouring town Puerto del Carmen, but there are some bars that you cannot miss. For instance, McSorley's Irish Bar is located in the Marina of Puerto Calero and it has a great atmosphere and features entertainment such as Quiz Nights, Live Music and DJ's.
