Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is the southern coast of Lanzarote, overlooked by the dormant volcano, Montana Roja, it is 23 miles from the island's capital Arrecife and about 20 miles from the Airport.

A former fishing village Playa Blanca is now the fastest growing tourist resort on Lanzarote with considerable building work taking place over the last decade. Playa Blanca give you the chance to sample some fantastic beaches, great cuisine, a lively atmosphere, though not as hectic as the islands other major resorts.

Playa Blanca is great for couples and families. Lanzarote is home to a number of top beaches. The white sandy sweep in the heart of town - from which Playa Blanca gets its name - is the proud owner of a coveted Blue Flag, as is the nearby Playa Dorada beach.

Along with the blue flag Playa Blanca and Playa Dorada, perhaps the most well known of all the beaches around Playa Blanca is Papagayo: a collection of smaller beaches that are separated by high cliffs, forming a number of sheltered bays. This area which is about four miles away has been protected and is now a national park.

One of the newer areas in Playa Blanca is Marina Rubicon. This marina is now complete and is becoming the most popular harbour in Lanzarote. There are already many shops and restaurants around the harbour and is now home to many different excursions.

Holidaymakers wanting to enjoy water sports in Playa Blanca should head to the beach where activities can be organised by the beachfront and boat trips leave regularly for the Papagayo. The Timanfaya National Park is ten miles away where visitors can view the interesting volcanic scenery and there is even the opportunity to ride a camel.

Regular Ferries from the harbour sail to the island of Fuerteventura, there are two ferry lines to choose from in which to make the journey.

There are some good seafood restaurants on the beach promenade overlooking the central Playa Blanca beach. Certainly a great place to spend a long lunch in good company.

Since the resort has a large proportion of self-catering villas and bungalows, there is no shortage of places to eat. The seafront at the centre of town is lined with restaurants catering to just about every taste and nationality.
